Begin Your Adventure
I am a strong believer that all children and adults can become life-long readers. My instruction for teaching reading uses a multi-sensory approach. Together goals are set and student performance is regularly tracked to ensure good progress is being made.
About Carolyn
I am a retired elementary teacher of 21 years. The last eleven years of my career were spent teaching a diverse population of second language students. Throughout my career, my passion has always been to give the gift of reading.
Since retiring, I have been working in elementary schools private tutoring students and teaching adults. The students I have had the privilege of working with struggle with reading disabilities such as dyslexia or are second language learners.
I currently hold Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s degree in literacy with a specialty in reading. I am a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner and hold a certification in Orton-Gillingham.
How I Teach
Free Assessment
At the start, everyone is assessed This assessment shows the strengths and weaknesses of the reader which enables me to craft an individualized approach.
First Meeting
An initial meeting is scheduled to discuss students’ strengths and weaknesses. Details for lessons to meet the needs of the student are discussed.
Set Schedule
Scheduling is flexible and will meet the needs and availability of the student. Time, days per week and length of lesson will all be taken into consideration.
First Lesson
Once an assessment has been completed, an initial plan can be formalized to start instruction. These lesson routines are explained, modeled, and practiced.
“Not only does she have years of training and experience, but she enjoys working with all different kinds of people and helping them overcome their reading difficulties. I highly recommend her services!”
